What This Role Involves:

The Accountant is a part of our Finance team, playing an important role in ensuring that our financial record keeping is accurate and attended to in a timely manner. You will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of invoices on the receivables side, while also processing invoices on the payables side.

You will process our team's bi-weekly payroll, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, in addition to reconciling bank accounts and credit cards, coordinating bank deposits, and ensuring that all financial transactions are entered into our accounting software with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.

Your role will also include the preparation of tax remittances (including GST/HST and income tax returns) for the Director of Finance to review. As a key member of our Finance team, you will be asked to review and maintain operational policies and procedures, making proposals for changes or additions where appropriate to adjust to changing industry guidelines and best practices. Finally, you will provide support to the Director of Finance on annual lease and insurance renewals, as well as on our annual trust and financial statement audit.

What We Have To Offer:

The starting salary for this role is $66,274, with some opportunity to credit additional previous experience that exceeds the requirements outlined below.

In addition, we offer an annual salary review process each January, so the successful candidate can expect to receive regular increases to their salary, subject to meeting established performance objectives.

What We Are Looking For:

The successful applicant for this position will bring the following qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in Accounting or Finance is required, with a related degree being a strong asset.
  • Five years of accounting or financial services experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of principles and practices of payroll and experience with processing payroll is a requirement for this role.
  • Previous experience in filing and remitting organizational tax returns and GST/HST is an asset.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles with demonstrated experience in application.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management are required, including the ability to independently prioritize and multi-task.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, demonstrating a genuine desire to work as part of a team and help people.
  • Commitment to managing personal information in a confidential and sensitive manner.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and a solution-focused approach, with the ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in computer and technology applications, including experience with Microsoft Office and accounting software (i.e., QuickBooks).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, and willingness to help wherever needed.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position, based in our New Westminster Head Office. In-office work will be required for some accounting functions, but there will be some opportunities for hybrid/remote work as well. The anticipated schedule will involve 2-3 days per week worked from the office, subject to operational needs.
