Reporting to the President of the Company, the ideal candidate will manage the facility accounting, financial and management reporting and information systems. You will carry out accounting and reporting principles, policies and practices, monitor internal control and prepare the annual capital and operating budgets. In addition, you will direct the corporate information services function.

As the ideal candidate, you will have received a professional accounting designation, or equivalent, along with a minimum of 4 to 6 years of progressively responsible experience. Accounting and financial management expertise, an understanding of computer technology and its applications, and the ability to deal with all levels of the organization are required elements of this role, as well as solid business judgement, well-developed leadership and problem-solving skills, complemented by your excellent communication and team focus.

You will also ensure the timely and accurate processing of financial information to allow all decision makers to make appropriate financial decisions.

Reporting Relationships:

Internal contacts: President, Red Deer Management Team, Clerical Staff

External contacts: Suppliers, Customers, Auditors, Bank, Government

Key Responsibility Areas:

Leadership & Supervision including:

  • Manage the accounting functions and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the companies’ guiding principles.
  • Maintain an efficient and appropriate level of communication regarding all necessary company matters.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the senior management team.
  • Manage a staff of accounting personnel, utilizing team building, problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Develop performance plans, evaluate and assist employees in performance improvement.
  • Develop and build effective teams, resolve conflict, mentor and coach employees.
  • Direct, set priorities and delegate work assignments for employees.
  • Manage staff scheduling, time off requests, overtime and the direction of work.

Budgeting including:

  • Assist with the development of the annual budget, capital budget and quarterly forecasts.

Financial Management including:

  • Financial and cost accounting reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis or as required.
  • Analytical and predictive business modelling.
  • Develop, maintain and improve a reporting system with precise measures of manufacturing parameters.
  • Manage all accounting functions including payroll.
  • Ensure all government reporting requirements are met.
  • Oversee the accounting, information systems, reporting and payment activities of the plant to ensure all related records are maintained according to company and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor internal financial controls.
  • Prepare cash flow requirements.

Customer services including:

  • Assist managers with areas that relate to finance.
  • Assist managers with budgeting for their area.

Computer System and Software:

  • Maintain system with help of outside consultant.

Performs other related and assigned duties as required.

Entry Level Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree – plus recognized accounting designation
  • Experience: 4 – 6 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience
  • Certification/Licenses: CPA
  • Other Requirements: Excellent computer skills

Competencies:

  • Computer Skills – understanding of the functions and applications of computer software used to perform the job; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Easy Pay and any particular safety-related software that is used.
  • Problem Solving / Trouble Shooting – examining, analyzing or diagnosing probable causes and solutions to an existing problem; systematic search for the source of a problem; a process of elimination may be used to isolate possible causes.
  • Communication – Uses verbal and written skills to get ideas across and provides clear and concise instruction to others.
  • Team Work – works collaboratively and cooperatively with others to achieve a common goal.
