There are a number of facilities on the CRL site that surpassed their useful life expectancy and are becoming more difficult to operate and maintain. One hundred and twenty-two (122) buildings are scheduled to be transferred to CRL Facilities Decommissioning (FD) during this 10-year Decommissioning plan.

The CRL FD Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for the maintenance of the facilities under decommissioning. The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for the life cycle of all building equipment within Facilities Decommissioning, including the development, maintenance, repair, calibration, tracking, and disposal.

The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring all regulatory maintenance meets the compliance requirements and for ensuring that the facilities are maintained in a cost-effective manner to provide physical integrity and to support a safe sustainable state.

What will you be doing

The Maintenance Specialist has the following key responsibilities:
  • Tracking building deficiencies and coordinating the implementation of repairs.
  • Reviewing all preventative maintenance for newly transferred buildings: update, cancel, defer, or maintain.
  • Review existing preventative maintenance (PM) procedures of all FD facilities; update, cancel, defer, or maintain where needed and submit the paperwork for new PMs.
  • Completing asset transfers, disposals, and additions for Facilities Decommissioning (including locating of assets) and assisting POCO team with asset management paperwork.
  • Reviewing all demolished buildings to ensure no legacy items remain in Avantis.
  • Assisting with work maintenance packages, providing information for their creation, ensuring they are ready to execute in the field, assist with close out. Ensure all clearances are prepared in advance for PM execution, i.e. Order-to-Operate, Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Preparing and maintaining a schedule of current work (PM’s), including SWS items not entered in Avantis.
  • Completing all pressure boundary paperwork, i.e. pressure vessel removals.
  • Maintaining Decommissioning Specific spreadsheets.
Other duties include:
  • Working with FD Tool Crib operator, techs – assist with ensuring equipment is entered site system.
  • Improving coordination of maintenance jobs, i.e. all hepa maintenance done at the same time.
  • Creating and installing Master Equipment List (MEL) tags.
  • Submitting work requests.
  • Reviewing PM work breakdown structure (WBS) numbers annually in Avantis.
  • Ensuring all existing FD equipment have required asset tags and PM in Avantis.
  • Conducting field walk-downs of equipment to verify maintenance status and to resolve potential maintenance problems.
  • Recommend substitutions for equipment and components.
  • Procure materials and equipment.
  • Train and mentor Junior Maintenance Specialist
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:

Abilities and Skills:
  • Possess strong verbal & written communication skills and questioning attitude.
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; ability to establish priorities; define action plans; set and meet deadlines; monitor performance.
  • Proven initiative, motivation, and good people skills to work with peers, internal and external clients.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with various groups at all levels on a daily basis both on project and non-project related activities.
  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and the Avantis maintenance program.
Experience:
  • Experience in a nuclear operational or decommissioning environment.
  • Experience dealing with the maintenance of systems, structures and components.
  • A good understanding of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals and how they apply to decommissioning.
Education:
  • Graduation from an institute of technology with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience during which time the incumbent should have demonstrated the ability to assume responsibility as described above; OR
  • Secondary School graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally more than seven years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
Security clearance eligibility required:

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
