The Board Director position at Potluck Society is a pivotal role, responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring its mission and values are upheld. This role is crucial for maintaining the organization’s strong community impact and sustainability. The Board Director will work closely with the Chair, Board Members, and Executive Director to provide governance, strategic oversight, and support for Potluck’s programs and initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a leading social enterprise that makes a significant difference in the lives of individuals in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as an ambassador for Potluck, enhancing its public image and relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to Potluck Cafe Society.
  • Ensure the organization’s mission and values are upheld in all activities.
  • Collaborate with the Chair, Board Members, and Executive Director to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Participate in fundraising and resource development activities.
  • Support and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director.
  • Engage in board meetings, committees, and special events.
  • Advocate for Potluck within the community and among stakeholders.
  • Monitor and strengthen programs and services.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive board culture.
  • Review and approve annual budgets and financial statements.
  • Establish policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Evaluate board performance and address any governance issues.
  • Promote transparency and accountability within the organization.
  • Support public relations and community outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within a non-profit or social enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of governance and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in fundraising and resource development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for non-profits.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Potluck’s mission and values.
