About the Role

  • Our HSSE Field Advisor is an exceptional collaborator with strong emotional intelligence for the development and implementation of HSSE behaviour and culture in the operations and maintenance of the Asset. We are seeking extensive knowledge in the application of the LNG Canada HSSE manuals and strong field HSSE application in the CSU and Operate phases for our team. In the goal of create injury free operations in a hazardous environment – all delivered through a human where Honesty, Integrity and Respect are valued that others love to work with.
  • The HSSE Field Advisor key role is to support the Asset HSSE team in the readiness, implementation, and monitoring performance of the HSSE Management Systems within the LNG Canada HSSE Control Framework. The HSSE Field team will be focal point for the processes and procedures delivered for the site for making easier to our workforce to work safely were we welcome their insights and inputs. These will ensure that the controls we are creating within the HSSE Framework fit the task being performed on site.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support on site implementation of the Asset HSSE Management Plan, modelled on LNG Canada HSSE control framework.
  • Support the operationalization of the transition systems with the collaborations of the Execute Team and the CSU team.
  • Drive effectiveness and efficiency of the HSSE Procedures through interaction with people on site, listening and simplification of documentation, by reducing variability.
  • Visible field leadership – presence in the field is critical for this role; engage with the workforce, be curious, utilize the learner mindset and ask for feedback on our ways of working. Validate what is going well to replicate and to seek for development opportunities – Create Performance.
  • Support Asset HSSE team with incident investigations and incident reporting.
  • Support and coach implementation of behavioral based programs.
  • Support development and implementation of the Asset ER Plans and Protocols.
  • Support Asset for coaching use of Sphera system (Reporting, Monitoring, and Quality Control on the Incident Management system). Challenging and Maintaining adequate Risk Ranking methodology.
  • Support Asset HSSE team in Implementing and coaching of the SIMOPS Plan including MOPO, Hazardous Area Classification requirements, Physical area demarcation and roles and responsibilities, Fatigue Management and, Maintenance execution to ensure that the processes are in line with the LNGC HSSE & SP control Framework.

Additional role elements as organization becomes more operational:

  • Perform continual inspection/ field-walks and review of jobs for safe work practices (all HSSE aspects). Pro-actively ensure that all activities in the day-to-day operations are executed with no harm to personnel, environment, and equipment and in accordance with agreed procedure.
  • Conduct and/or participate in Internal Assurance Audit Process, with focus on PTW, LOTO, LSR, PSF and Contractor HSSE Management auditing process.
  • Implementation and support of HSSE initiatives such as campaigns, Coaching Based Intervention programme and HSSE alerts and learning’s cascade.
  • Conduct and/or support initial investigation of incidents & near misses to enable a continuous improvement and learning culture.
  • Identify HSE threats in the production unit and analyse common threats associated in the others onsite.
  • Support on site HSE for all the turnaround and Major projects in assigned Areas.
  • Review Asset investigations output to improve HSSE systems, processes, and procedure to support run and maintain activities that are resilient to cope with human errors.
  • Be curious and communicate new Standards or Regulations are issued and/or published.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years in HSSE Field experience preferably in Major Petrochemical, oil & gas, and large project application.
  • 10 years of Industrial Manufacturing, Petrochemical experience in field production, maintenance and support functions.
  • Experienced in HSSE application during Turn Around events.
  • Strong passion for HSE, drive to build and change HSE culture.
  • Knowledge, within HSSE Control Framework, including Safety Management Systems.
  • Demonstration of the ability to implement HSSE Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge in CSU (commissioning and Start-up) activities.
  • Working knowledge of HSSE principles and their applicability to Transition (CSU) and Operate (Aftercare) phases.
  • Maintain high visible safety presence on site, approximately 80% of time in the field.
  • Strong communication and listening skills that display interpersonal effectiveness with the ability to coach, mentor coworkers and influence without formal authority.
  • Role-model as Learner Mindset and support learning as a deliberate improvement strategy.
  • Help foster psychological safety for the Asset.
  • Demonstrated core values of Honesty, Integrity, and Respect.
  • Demonstrated progressive work experiences in HSSE space.

This role requires that you:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit).
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). For applicants located outside of the region, you are encouraged to explore what Kitimat has to offer in terms of lifestyle including schooling, local amenities, outdoor adventure, and housing, to ensure Kitimat is where you would like to call your new home.
  • During CCSU work 50 hrs. /week, not necessarily every Saturday and Sunday off.
  • During steady state Operate work 40 hrs./week M-F.
  • Are willing to work outdoors during inclement weather in all seasons including heavy snowfall and periods of heavy rain.
  • Can climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces. Plant design conditions provide structures that are significantly taller than common in industry, individuals must be comfortable with heights.
  • Can work wearing a respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when required.
  • Are willing to comply with LNGC’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, a background check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
  • Have a Valid Driver’s license.
  • Know that this is not a fly-in, fly-out rotation role.
