Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

Under the direction of the Program Manager and in compliance with the funded program guidelines and College policies, the Employment Developer provides job development assistance for multi-barriered, unemployed, and underemployed individuals. The incumbent will assist clients in exploring, accessing, and retaining employment and where necessary, initiating, developing, and securing direct employment opportunities, meaningful work experiences, and training placements for clients.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required at 332 Marsland Drive, Waterloo. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.

Responsibilities:

Clients

  • Develops and implements Employment Action Plans with clients in active job search who are not competitive in the open job market, using a customer-centric and collaborative approach
  • Interviews and completes client needs assessments and action plans
  • Refers clients to additional community services that are identified during the job development process
  • Maintains contact with clients regarding job search progress, development of leads, and follows up with employers after job applications and interviews
  • Identifies and requests necessary jobseeker financial support for clients to reduce temporary barriers to employment, and support job retention in compliance with program guidelines
  • Supports clients with job retention planning to determine ongoing needs to advance in their job
  • Provides regular and ongoing job coaching to support clients with job performance and workplace integration

Employers

  • Develops supportive and strategic relationships with employers to identify and meet human resource needs, labour market opportunities/trends, and to procure training/work experience and jobs for clients
  • Interviews, assesses, and guides existing/potential employers to identify human resource requirements, and proposes the advantages of working with Conestoga Career Centre programs
  • Markets the benefits of inclusive hiring practices to employers
  • Facilitates job carving initiatives by creating customized or specialized employment opportunities with employers
  • Conducts employer site visits, confirms eligibility, assesses workplace capacity, and evaluates commitment to participate in funded programs, on-the-job experiences, and hiring of identified clients
  • Procures opportunities for participants seeking training/work experience, including apprenticeships, volunteer opportunities, job trials, or Part/Full-time employment (subsidized or unsubsidized)
  • Identifies, educates, negotiates, and completes documentation to support work placement contracts, training objectives, and financial incentives for each client/employer connection
  • Develops goal and skill-oriented training plans with participant and employer cooperation
  • Monitors client progress through training plans to ensure that employer and clients are progressing through agreed-upon objectives; Provides retention coaching to both client and employer as needed
  • Provides training on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety, and accommodation needs
  • Coaches and supports clients with their transition to work, including understanding employer expectations, workplace orientation, and work rights through counselling and group workshops
  • Responds immediately to clients and employers in crisis situations, demonstrating effective problem-solving and listening skills and facilitating access to qualified professionals

Documentation

  • Oversees documentation for funder and College data collection purposes, using digital platforms including ESCases, Thrive Career Wellness, SharePoint, and other approved platforms
  • Maintains up-to-date client records and files, in accordance with funded program guidelines and departmental procedures, including client and employer contact documentation, subsidy information and rationales, training agreements, Employment Action Plans with rationale and progress notes, etc.
  • Prepares weekly activity reports on client progress, client intake, and placement activity
  • Verifies proof of employment documentation for clients

Other Related Duties

  • Researches, creates, and facilitates employment-related workshops; Coordinates employer events
  • Participates in team or community meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities
Qualifications:
  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Social Sciences, Business, or related field
  • Two years of combined experience with job development and client case management, including providing job search assistance, employer lead generation, and working with employers to create opportunities for individuals
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous people, racialized people, newcomers to Canada, people with disabilities, youth with higher support needs, or people living in poverty
  • Strong motivational interviewing and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to advocate for marginalized individuals in the job market
  • Well-developed Non-violent crisis intervention skills
  • Empathy, tact, patience, and sincere desire to help customers
  • Access to reliable transportation for regular travel to employer sites
