The Employer Relations Officer (ERO) is part of a local campus team and has a goal of providing student-centered and holistic proactive service to all Conestoga students and faculty. The incumbent provides high-quality customer service to all stakeholders of Co-operative Education via phone, in-person, and online.

The ERO along with the other Co-op Employer Relations Officers is primarily responsible for coordinating the co-op recruitment cycle, working with students, employers, and Conestoga colleagues, as well as managing relationships with existing Co-op and graduating student employers. In addition, the incumbent will oversee the provision of services and problem resolution to students and employers, management of student and employer data, maintenance of records, and the collection and organization of accurate and complete data to support the preparation of reports.

The Employer Relations Officer acts as a conduit between the Employer Relations Consultants and the Co-op Advisors responsible for each co-op program.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 3 days on-site, and 2 days remote.

Responsibilities:
  • Establishes and maintains records management with information that reflects the student’s Co-op activities in accordance with the department’s policies, procedures, and legislation (i.e. CASL), and all information is accurately reflected in the MyCareer portal in a timely manner to ensure other business processes operate efficiently
  • Assists with posting co-op jobs, completes a review of the description of duties, and ensures alignment with designated co-op programs
  • Reviews the duties of posted co-op jobs to ensure the co-op experience can meet program outcomes and that other College programs are accurately promoted
  • Provides professional quality customer service with employers and students to improve hiring conversion rates
  • Coordinates on and off-campus interview schedules for co-op students
  • Presents offers of employment (via rankings) on behalf of employers to students
  • Coordinates the resume referral service at the end of each semester for students who have not secured employment
  • Maintains accurate data throughout the work term and assists portal coordinator with verifying work-term status reports
  • Collects mid-term and final performance surveys and assists with the preparation of PAC and other reports for Employer Relations Consultants, Co-op advisors, faculty, and the Associate Director
  • Reports technical issues to the Career Portal Coordinator or Associate Director and assists employers and students with the resolution of technical problems
  • Proactively shares new employment opportunities and employer accounts for co-op students and graduates through telemarketing and e-mail correspondence
  • In collaboration with the Employer Relations Consultants and Marketing & Communications Coordinator, develops strategies to promote Conestoga’s programs to employers which may include supporting employer recruitment events
  • Works collaboratively with the Campus Manager and their campus colleagues to provide clear, responsive, and consistent customer service that minimizes the need for further navigation and enhances overall service quality, capacity, and sustainability
  • Participates in and facilitates cross-functional training as required and remains current on service parameters and referral pathways for students requiring services beyond the scope of those provided by their primary department team/service area
  • Proactively engages in relationship building with campus colleagues and contributes to the development of a campus community
  • Adopts a whole student approach and pursues opportunities to integrate support, services, and programming for students
  • Supports student transition (i.e. orientation) and retention initiatives (i.e. exam relief) at peak times in the student lifecycle
Qualifications:
  • Two-year Diploma in Business/Office Administration, Public Relations, Career Development, Human Resources, Business Analytics, Computer/Data Management, or related programs
  • Three years of experience in a busy office environment, preferably in a student services or employment services setting
  • Knowledge of Conestoga’s post-secondary Co-op & WIL programs is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Conestoga programs and sales and marketing techniques is considered an asset
  • Experience with customer retention, sales, and marketing techniques is considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • High level of computer literacy and experience working with databases to manage data and data analysis, contact management systems, SharePoint systems, and MS office
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and handle a high volume of activity with conflicting deadlines
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy, as well as accuracy and attention to detail are essential
