Senior Underwriter, Middle Market

Toronto, ON | Canada

As a newly established business division of AXA XL Americas, our Middle Markets business focuses on the expansion of AXA XL’s current offerings to Middle Market clients in the Canadian Commercial P&C market. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing new broker and client relationships, market and underwrite our Middle Market products, and support the growth of this exciting new business.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  1. Support the development and marketing of our new products across GL, Property, Auto, Umbrella, and Environmental.
  2. Underwriting both new and renewal business, assisting in achieving profitable premium and rate goals, working with actuarial and claims, and successfully delivering results consistent with the financial plan.
  3. Developing, maintaining, and servicing broker relationships within the distribution model; coordinating with brokers to determine their marketing and education needs supported by AXA XL Middle Market.
  4. Interacting directly with insureds, brokers, and producers to service accounts and brokers.
  5. Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, and the management team.
  6. Ensuring high-quality service standards and compliance with all internal audit guidelines.
  7. Acting as a representative of the company and our agents by attending internal/external company functions, agent-sponsored, and industry events.
  8. Meeting with brokers to set annual targets, issuing monthly status reports, and monitoring P&L against plan.
  9. Taking initiative and proactively supporting broker and market interactions that support growth; meeting with customers and prospects to develop relationships, deliver Middle Market education, and support business targets.
You will report to the Chief Underwriting Officer, Middle Market.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Outstanding knowledge of the Canadian insurance industry, combined with in-depth technical knowledge of insurance product offerings and effective broker relationships within the Canadian market.
  • Extensive Middle Market insurance experience (e.g., underwriting, claims, or insurance-related business development experience).
  • Consistently pursuing opportunities to differentiate AXA XL in the industry through our offerings and how we conduct business.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain robust insured and broker contacts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent customer service focus is a must.
  • Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.
