Objective: To manage shop floor processes and staff to accomplish business objectives in accordance with the strategic plan. Overseeing the work, people and results in various departments, applying a wide range of skills, knowledge of techniques and procedures.
Work to be performed:
The following reflects the principal duties and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all work requirements, nor does it imply that all workers in this category perform all of these functions.
- Responsible for the smooth operations for planning, organizing and controlling of all production-related activities within perimeter of responsibility.
- Develop departmental goals with the Plant manager.
- Responsible for the performance of the team(s) within perimeter of responsibility with regards to Quality, Delivery and Cost goals.
- Cultivate a culture of safety, operational excellence, and constant continuous improvement.
- Build people capabilities through coaching and training sessions; provide feedback that focuses on accountability, development and excellence in the workplace.
- Ensure operations adhere to operating procedures, quality and safety requirements from company, industry and customer standards.
- Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate solving problems in a timely manner and to identify opportunities for improvements.
- Ensure the necessary resources to meet quality and delivery requirements of jobs are made available as required.
- Initiate, Lead, Monitor, report, develop and implement improvement programs such as on-time delivery, productivity, manufacturing cost/expenses, inventory, safety performance, 5S housekeeping, customer feedbacks and overtime expenses.
- Work with various departments to improve process, performance and management efficiency to achieve business goals.
- Formulate and lead Continuous Improvement projects from Identified opportunities from Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SPQDC).
- Manage employee morale and improve retention.
- Lead and groom internal succession pipeline.
- Enforce discipline in the team.
- May perform other related duties as required by the company.
Responsibility Involved:
Works with general guidance and direction to achieve objectives; establishes own method of performing duties in accordance with pre-determined requirements and goals; responsible for workers; completes performance appraisals.
Job Working Conditions:
Involves a busy working environment with frequent contacts throughout the day; psychological environment is such that it may involve periods of some stress due to deadlines; deals with personnel on a continual basis; extended time in plant environment may expose to somewhat disagreeable factors due to exposure to noise, dust, heat, fumes etc.
Skills needed:
Knowledge of plant operations and production methods, knowledgeable about all the equipment in the plant, time management and organizational abilities, Strong written and verbal communication skills, Leadership aptitude and the ability to motivate workers, Strong Adherence to Quality Standards, Decision making.
Education / Experience:
- Minimum 5-10 years of Experience in manufacturing supervision position demonstrating the capability to perform the above duties and responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of Manufacturing environment (metal forming / processing / composite manufacturing/ Assembly).
- Must be a self-starter, a quick critical thinker, and have the ability to drive the best out of his/her colleagues.
- Demonstrate leadership/drive/initiative.
- Detail Oriented.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Has exposure to a Lean Manufacturing environment, and experience leading Lean initiatives in a group setting.
- Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
- Equivalent to 4 years high school plus 2 years College/University in a related discipline OR on the job experience.
- On the job experience for five to seven years.
Qualification Assessment:
Ongoing informal observation/assessment of work performance provides continuing evidence of capabilities and proficiencies.
Training Requirements:
- On-the-job training on essential job duties and equipment.
- Instruction on quality standards.
- Instruction on customer requirements.
- Training regarding new contracts the company receives.
Salary Range: $75-85k
