The Manager, Sustainability & ESG is responsible for building and implementing comprehensive programs within the Environmental (E) portion of ESG, including conducting a materiality assessment, identifying key objectives and tactics, creating programs and policies, and engaging internal and external stakeholders to promote ESG initiatives. The Manager will work closely with designated managers in Asset Services, Human Resources, and National Marketing to ensure meaningful, strategic goals are established and achieved to positively impact our environment, support our communities, increase team member engagement, and create positive business outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborate closely with internal Social (S) and Governance (G) teams and stakeholders to forge strong partnerships that drive the development and implementation of the company’s ESG strategy.
  2. Establish and nurture relationships with external partners such as utility providers and industry environmental associations to leverage resources and explore opportunities for collaboration.
  3. Collaborate with company leaders and teams, attend pitches, and other events to support client-specific requests, promote energy and sustainability initiatives, and foster partnerships.
  4. Manage company energy data for sustainable platforms like EnergyStar, BOMA 365, LEED, WELL and GRESB.
  5. Develop corporate sustainability innovations, craft communication strategies, and identify key opportunities to advance the company’s environmental practices.
  6. Work with property teams to ensure property management policies and procedures align with governmental directives, regulations, and codes.
  7. Develop, maintain, and execute a regular cadence of environmental reporting, both internally and externally, including the production of an annual sustainability report and other necessary reporting products.
  8. Lead the assessment and analysis of current energy usage across all properties, and support property teams with energy efficiency projects such as renewable energy installations, building retrofits, and operational upgrades.
  9. Partner with senior leaders to establish meaningful long-term environmental targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and develop a prioritized roadmap to achieve sustainability goals, tracking and reporting progress regularly.
  10. Additional duties or projects as assigned by Senior Leadership.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Environmental Science, Sustainability Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Real Estate, or related field.
  2. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in corporate sustainability or ESG, corporate governance or related field. Commercial real estate experience a plus.
  3. Experience driving solutions and programs in corporate sustainability and operations and working on sustainability strategies, best practices, and industry trends.
  4. Proven project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks & competing priorities while working effectively with cross-functional teams.
  5. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
  6. Understands project scope, purpose, and audience; anticipates varying perspectives and inquiries; stays one-step ahead of incoming requests based on business instincts.
  7. Demonstrate strong analytical, data collection, and reporting capabilities with a high attention to detail.
  8. High level of cultural competence and cultural agility.
  9. Exhibit excellent writing and verbal presentation skills, with the ability to extract and communicate complex details and data into consumable insights.
  10. Some Travel Required.
