We are looking for a driven, passionate, positive individual to join our National Broker Distribution team.

The Broker Distribution landscape is changing quickly – and National Brokers are responsible for much of this change. They are growing significantly faster than the market via consolidation and increasingly sophisticated organic growth strategies. This small group of brokers with National reach will become dominant in a few years – and this will challenge all insurers (including Aviva) to adjust all dimensions of their value proposition to these brokers.

The National Broker team’s key mandate is to ensure Aviva responds with clear and aligned strategies across our business – so we can effectively handle the opportunities and risks this evolution in the overall market present.

The primary purpose of this role is to support and contribute to developing and delivering the strategies and subsequent tactics with respect to National Brokers as a collective, as well as individually.

This will include developing a deep understanding of specific National Brokers own strategies and supporting the stewardship of these relationships with Aviva. It will influence strategic direction and tactics, conduct business performance analysis (often in conjunction with a counterpart at the Broker) to support execution and delivery of agreed initiatives.

The core purpose is to deliver on both Aviva and National Broker goals by creating and supervising the conditions whereby each get the best out of each other across the provincial trading network.

This role supports distribution, underwriting and functional teams – with reach across all Commercial Lines (including our large corporate and specialty commercial division – GCS) and Personal Lines.

The development and communication of data analysis and insight both internally and externally will be a core requirement and capability. This will help build alignment around strategies and clarity around execution delivery – fostering mutually beneficial growth.

This role combines strategic consulting and engagement, broker partnership management with internal and external alignment from the front line to senior Executive. Success leads to seamless facilitation of delivery that gets results and value for all parties.

What you'll do:
  • Support Aviva Distribution Executive(s) at Regional and National level who will hold the primary accountability for relationship and performance

  • Accountable for establishing, building and maintaining valued relationships with internal and external collaborators at National brokers and Aviva.

  • Through effective periodic and valuable contact with brokers, the role will build a deep understanding and knowledge of national brokerages across all lines of business and functions, in support of identified critical initiatives. The role will collaborate with partners to develop solutions and find answers for brokers and will also identify opportunities to grow and/or improve the trading relationship and deliver improved value from Aviva’s broker distribution channel.

  • In response and in context to characteristics of broker trading relationships, market conditions, growth opportunities, among other variables, the role will form, propose, and complete critical initiatives to improve National Broker relationships and trading performance…enhancing Aviva’s value proposition to these partners.

  • Accountable for ensuring that appropriate and regular reviews of joint initiatives are completed – with a focus on supporting execution delivery and the subsequent achievement of planned trading outcomes.

  • Responsible for using this data to follow up with brokers and regional distribution and underwriting leaders on performance matters (advising on improvement initiatives, identifying remediation measures, identifying additional business opportunities, providing positive feedback on successes, etc).

  • Presents alternative points of view. Develops a strategy to support mutually effective outcomes for brokers, colleagues, and clients. Influences desired outcomes in support of the Aviva Distribution and National Relationships strategy by communicating and presenting compelling arguments that build consensus among all collaborators.

  • Partner with Broker Distribution leadership to provide insights and analyses required to support key critical initiatives and priorities.

  • Work closely with strategy and planning teams to support the development of strategic and annual business plans.

  • Develop, lead and handle projects and assignments, as required.

  • Own the preparation of the content for all Performance Management Meetings (PMM) in coordination with the Finance Business Partner, including analysis and insight of results and progress to key operational plans.

  • Lead the design, preparation and the coordination of content and successful execution of various internal and external conferences and events.

What you’ll bring:
  • You will have a University degree, College Diploma or equivalent work experience.

  • CIP/CRM/ Marketing or Financial Accounting professional qualification would an asset

  • Process orientation and skills for Project Management

  • Broad network of solid broker and client contacts and/or willingness to build such a network

  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills

  • Strong business management (business plans, marketing plans, metrics, understands business drivers) capabilities

  • Creative and bold problem solver with a curiosity to learn

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capability to communicate at all levels (with internal and external partners and via different media) is meaningful to the role.

  • Experience in at least 1 of the following areas:

  • 5+ years commercial insurance experience, preferably in mid / large commercial or risk handled accounts as either broker or underwriter

  • Business Development and / or Marketing experience

  • Key Account Management

  • Business and financial planning

  • French language an asset
