Packaging:

  • Develop, solve (aesthetic, structural, and communication concerns) and produce finished artwork for the branded product packaging; develop die lines where required; demonstrate strong 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional creative thinking and problem-solving to meet brand objectives and construct the best possible packaging solution for products.
  • Research packaging trends to stay current with best-in-class, customer-centric retail packaging design solutions and materials.
  • Collaborate with purchasing team and overseas vendors ensuring that all finished packaging designs are executed to our standards and tight deadlines are kept.

Photography:

  • Provide style direction for all photography to reinforce consistent visual representations across numerous in-house brands. Co-ordinate the photography schedule to ensure seamless operations with the marketing team.
  • Photo Editing: Colour correct hi-res images from photo shoots and other sources to produce best possible quality for packaging or other print production.

Planning and Organization:

  • Proactively plan and anticipate all current and future project needs to ensure timely and accurate delivery of all artwork to vendors ensuring purchase order delivery dates are not negatively affected by late or incomplete files.
  • Pre-Press and Print Production: Understand printing specs and the production process to create print-ready files to be produced overseas; create detailed production sheets for all artwork files to be submitted to printers that are thorough, well explained and easy to understand.

File Library:

  • Contribute to the cataloguing and maintenance of our asset library for all finished artwork and photography files.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in brand and packaging design.
  • An expert understanding of the trends in packaging and brand visual systems
  • Ability to execute design projects in a timely fashion, from start to finish, under tight deadlines and with a minimum of supervision.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with a critical pixel perfect eye for quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications.
  • Experience defining or maintaining a design style guide or branding guidelines
  • Advanced Fluency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. Experience on ESKO Studio, Artioscad or similar software with 3D retail packaging rendering experience is a plus.
  • Strong illustration/sketching abilities, proficient in iconography, typography and layout.
  • The ability to create digital and/or physical mockups.
  • Thorough understanding of production terminology and pre-press requirements for preparing digital files to be sent overseas.
  • Formal training at a university or college with a degree/diploma in packaging design, graphic design, layout, colour theory and typography.
  • Relevant experience at a studio/agency or corporate art department (non-freelance).
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Portfolio or samples of work demonstrating visual branding, packaging systems, and photo art direction.

Standard work week with flexibility to work additional hours as needed during peak season
