This role also has responsibility over driving and influencing the overall Safety culture of the organization by successfully reducing risk, and proactively pursuing accident prevention. Primary/Essential Responsibilities: Ensure that the site is in compliance with company policies, provincial and federal Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulatory Environmental standards. Work with and influence Site Leadership to develop a safety culture and ensure it is our number one priority. Foster positive employee relationships and maintain regular shop-floor presence to gain commitment from all employees. Work in conjunction with QMS Manager to manage and maintain ISO 14001 certification. Maintain data of all safety key performance indicators (KPIs) and lead key initiatives that continuously improve these metrics and report on monthly safety metrics. Manage and maintain safety and environmental records along with records of third-party contracts relevant to health, safety and environmental issues and legislation. Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee; encourage worker input and involvement in a meaningful manner. Review all accident and incident investigation reports and make suggestions to prevent reoccurrence and assist in the development of corrective actions. Conduct secondary investigations in a timely fashion and follow up on outstanding or ineffective corrective actions. Actively participate in claims management, including early and safe return to work. Ensure employees are well aware of their responsibilities by cooperating with the return-to-work efforts. Manage safety program and all committees, review incident reports, inspection reports, EHS incident logs, and related documentation. Perform Hazard Mapping, Job Hazard Analysis and/or Cell Risk Assessments and Safety Walks as necessary and follow through to ensure completion of actions. Perform environmental monitoring and interpret data, prepare written reports, documenting testing methodology, observations, results and recommendations. Conduct internal health/safety and environmental inspections and audits as prescribed and follow up with the required corrective actions. Coordinate and schedule third party audits / inspections, testing and sampling related to health, safety and environmental issues; and maintain updated third-party test results. Coordinate with Management/Engineering to assist with Pre-Start and EHS Reviews, Chemical Management System and Job Hazard Analysis. Act as primary liaison with all governmental agencies concerning environmental, health and safety issues. Monitor new and revised legislative requirements and ensure compliance. Participate in manufacturing meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities. Conduct orientation with new employees on all health, safety and environmental compliance. Administer all environmental, health and safety compliance policies and programs, including the regular maintenance of environmental, health and safety Key Measurable Indicators and the related reports. Develop training content and conduct training on various environmental, health and safety topics for employees, supervisors, and management. Maintain and update the safety training matrix. Coordinate internal and external training sessions to ensure workers are trained and certified in accordance with the company's requirements. Monitor the performance of training programs to ensure that all required training is completed in the required timeframe. Responsible for promoting and seeking excellence in all aspects of business. Manage emergency response plans and activities. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in occupational health and safety or relevant experience plus a minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. Minimum 7 years of Health, Safety & Environmental experience within a manufacturing environment. Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience implementing and managing EHS programs and projects. Strong sense of urgency, accountability and ownership for the company's EHS activities, programs and culture. Effective change management and influencing skills. Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information. Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes and legislative requirements relating to OHSA, CSA Standards, WSIB, and the Environmental Protection Act. Health and Safety certifications and accreditations (e.g. WHMIS, Working at Heights, Train the Trainer programs, Joint Health and Safety Committee) is considered an asset. Behavior-related occupational safety is a central value for you. Proficiency in Windows Office Suites. Strong analytical skills needed to analyze and interpret data trends. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization, external government agencies, consultants and other stakeholders. Ability to multitask, prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines and multiple desired requests. Able to collaborate with line workers and demonstrate leadership in placing safety as priority. Ability to practice and maintain integrity while following company's policies. Ability to create a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional / technical knowledge. Results-oriented, self-motivated with a sense of initiative. Ability to work independently and as a team player while solving problems and multitasking in a deadline-driven environment. Strong administrative skills and ability to maintain large amount of health and safety records. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience implementing, managing and maintaining ISO 14001 system, Safety Excellence Programs, and ISO45001. Train the trainer certification in forklift, overhead crane, and other regulatory training requirements. Previous experience with hazard mapping assessments or job hazard analysis.
