Petcurean - Product Development Specialist

Reports to: Director of Product Management and Innovation

Your Role at Petcurean:

As a key member of the Innovation and Product Development team, the Product Development Specialist will help detect white space and new pet food opportunities by tracking and monitoring emerging industry trends, consumer behavior, and competitive activities to ensure new product strategies are on track. As an analytical thinker by nature, this position will dive into internal and external reports to identify new product opportunities and gaps that exist within each product line. This role will be an Innovative thought leader and drive ideation and brainstorming workshops with key stakeholders both internally and externally to help generate innovative ideas.

This position will report to the Director of Innovation & Product Management and will have a close working relationship with the Project Managers. Cross-functional collaboration with the Brand Management, Marketing, Operations, and Sales teams will also be required.

If you were the Product Development Specialist now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Analyze and synthesize data and feedback from multiple sources to define product strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Develops and fosters working relationships with B2C and B2B customers to understand their needs and pain points and create winning new products to address those needs.
  • Guides the communication of the product vision and roadmap to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guides cross-functional teams to deliver products and features that drive value for our consumers.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of consumer needs, collecting and documenting their requirements to support the Director in setting product strategies.
  • Helps source new manufacturing partners to support new product launches in conjunction with the Nutrition Team.
  • Leads the review and comparison of quote sheets from various manufacturers to ensure the best quality and price for new products.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of industry innovations and technology platforms to inform the design of the product.
  • Analyzes the financial and business impact and ROI of proposed new products.
  • Recommends metrics and KPIs to measure the success of the product and its individual features and continually suggests refinements to the product.

  • Demonstrated project management abilities, with multiple deadlines and potential cross-department impact. Managing projects with minimal guidance.
  • Able to influence internal and external teams & stakeholders through expert relationship building and succinct, clear communication.
  • Excellent writing, visual, and presentation skills. Able to communicate with teams at various levels throughout the organization.
  • Understands how the area of work supports the company objectives.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Proven ability to balance multiple perspectives and recommend solutions to improve the function or programs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to methodically solve problems and recommend solutions-focused decisions.
  • Able to communicate in a way, both written and verbal, that gives merit to Petcurean, the team, and themselves.

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
  • 3-5 years experience in a product development/management role.
