Candidates are invited to apply for the above full-time position to work at our Extendicare York 278-bed long-term care facility, located in Sudbury, Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Plan, organize, direct and supervise the department program which includes: recreational, restorative care, pastoral care, social work, music therapist and volunteers.

· Implement and evaluate program relating to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents.

· Coordinate activities with those of other departments and inform administration of departmental activities, needs and problems.

· Develop departmental goals and objects.

· Actively participate in program delivery.

· Develop, implement, and monitor programming budget.

· Satisfy Health Record as they pertain to the department (MDS experience an asset)

QUALIFICATIONS

· Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university required

· Knowledge of the concepts of Restorative care, Holistic care, Activation and Dementia Care

· Previous Experience in a health care or other relevant setting required.

· Experience in planning, developing and evaluating effectiveness of individual and group programming for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach

· Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English language.

· Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner

· Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards

· Previous supervisory experience in long term care an asset

· Experience with an older adult population an asset

· Strong customer and resident service skills.

· Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset

· Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks

· Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities

· Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills

· Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset)

· Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required


· At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required

· Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers required
