Artificial Intelligence Architect

Type: Term Position (2-years)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (min. two days per month on-site).


Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Service Delivery & Innovation, IT Services, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Architect will drive the development and implementation of AI strategies and tools across Queens University. This position focuses on assessing needs, recommending AI technologies, and supporting their architecture and deployment to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape AI initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the university’s technology landscape.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Stay updated on AI advancements and trends, particularly in higher education.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align AI initiatives with university goals.
  • Develop a strategic AI roadmap, defining milestones, deliverables, and timelines.


Needs Analysis & Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify opportunities for AI integration.
  • Lead requirements gathering and analysis with stakeholders across the university.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools (e.g., AI assistants or co-pilots) based on feasibility and effort estimates.


Solution Design & Implementation:

  • Design solutions, deployment plans, and quality assurance guidelines for AI initiatives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on AI architecture and implementation strategies.
  • Oversee project planning and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery.


Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure AI solutions meet user needs.
  • Mentor and share expertise with junior team members.


Role Requirements:

  • Expertise in AI tools and technologies, including evaluation, selection, and implementation.
  • Strong analytical and architectural skills, with a focus on enterprise-level solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in product ownership or business architecture is an asset.
  • Experience in platform architecture and implementation, with a proven track record of delivering successful artificial intelligence projects.
  • Artificial Intelligence Architect expertise
  • Advanced IT experience with artificial intelligence technologies, information privacy, cloud technology, and data platforms used within the higher education domain.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, large language models (i.e., ChatGPT), natural language processing, and data analytics. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and familiarity with AI frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and their AI services.
