The Trade Policy and Projects team leads the development, integration and execution of strategic projects and initiatives to support Alberta's trade capacity and growth. The team oversees the Ministry's strategic trade policy and related projects in collaboration with program delivery teams, other ministries and strategic partners on capacity building initiatives and programming. 

In your role as a Manager of Trade Policy and Projects you will lead your team to deliver initiatives related to key Alberta trade and export activities including international missions and events, meetings and engagements with international officials and other stakeholders, grant programs and other policy levers for supporting Alberta businesses, and cross-ministry and external outreach and collaboration. The Manager works closely with the team members, directors, senior leadership, cross-ministry network and external organizations to ensure effective advice and execution on strategic policy issues and projects related to international trade. You will also oversee the development and administration of strategic grants and programming with key trade ecosystem organizations and play a crucial role in policy direction and program development for trade-related grants such as the Alberta Export Expansion Program. 

You will be responsible for managing and developing staff as part of a collaborative, positive, agile and supportive team environment. This role provides broad knowledge and understanding of current and emerging economic and political issues to provide research and policy advice. You will represent the department in interdepartmental and cross-ministry work teams, and lead engagement and initiatives with organizations outside of the Government of Alberta. This position requires extensive problem solving, political acumen, systems thinking, decision-making, project management, relationship development and communication skills. You will manage multiple priorities and play a key role in leading complex projects and advising on how the department can respond to evolving trade challenges and opportunities.
