Job Responsibilities:
  • Install, fit, fabricate, and attach insulation, finishing, and weatherproofing materials with a high standard of workmanship.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, year-round in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints and data, to determine requirements.
  • Select the amount and type of insulation to be installed and secure it according to the type and shape of surface.
  • Demonstrate the installation, fitting, fabrication, and attachment of insulation, finishing, and weatherproofing materials to a high standard of workmanship.
  • Install vapor barriers and finish insulated surfaces by applying metal cladding, canvas, plastic sheeting, or cement.
  • Remove or seal old asbestos insulation.
  • Thoroughly describe insulation materials.
  • Sort and organize materials.
  • Count and place orders for materials.
  • Complete safety paperwork, such as FLRA's and Start Cards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of two years' previous Insulating experience.
  • Valid certification from an accredited apprenticeship board.
  • CSTS is a minimum safety requirement.
  • Ability to work in temperatures ranging from 0 to 60° C, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces for 4-7 hours per day.
  • Ability to wear a full-face respirator for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding at extreme heights.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds often and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain footing on surfaces which are sometimes slippery.
  • Ability to see well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to hear well (naturally or with hearing aid).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees and supervision.
  • Ability to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and feel objects; and coordinate well the use of hands or fingers and eyes.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
  • Ability to supply a negative Drug & Alcohol Pre-Access test.
