We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (Theatre Qualified) to join our team at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a member of our integrated surgical team, you will provide practical nursing services in an operating room environment, performing varied and complex surgical interventions.
Responsibilities: • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document patient care during the pre-operative, operative and immediate post-operative periods. • Perform scrub duties, admission of patient to the OR and circulating duties, in collaboration with the peri-operative team and the RN coordinating care in the O.R. • Assist the RN coordinating care in the operating room, performing duties that support the primary circulating RN. • Alert the RN to any problems, changes or unusual signs or symptoms of the patient while in the operating room setting. • Document observations, treatment and other patient care activities during the pre, intra and post-operative periods. • Attend staff meetings and quality improvement rounds to provide and obtain information and feedback about patients and patient care. • Assist with orientation of new staff and attend educational sessions, in-services and workshops as required. Qualifications: • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies. • Graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care. • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). • Current basic cardiac life support certification. Skills and Abilities: • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Ability to deal with others effectively. • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. • Ability to organize work. • Ability to operate related equipment.
