About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Pharmacy Practice Assistant, you will play a vital role in the provision of safe and competent patient care, ensuring the goals and needs of patients are prioritized and individualized.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, package, and dispense medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
- Compound sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
- Dispense drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose
- Work with automation and inventory control systems
- Participate in quality programs and patient safety initiatives
About You:
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
- Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
- Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
- Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
- Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping
- Demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
- Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
- Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours and Compensation:
This is a casual relief position with a competitive hourly rate of $27.89 (Registered Technician) or $26.27 (Pharmacy Practice Assistant).
