Medical Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results, as well as maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Result Verification: Verify laboratory results for accuracy and investigate any discrepancies or abnormalities.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory analyzers and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Quality Control: Monitor quality control results and take corrective action as necessary to ensure compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Specimen Management: Ensure that specimens are collected, handled, and stored in accordance with established protocols to maintain their integrity and accuracy.
- Discordant Findings: Refer any discordant findings to the appropriate personnel for further investigation and resolution.
- Bone Marrow Collections: Assist with bone marrow collections, checking specimens for acceptability and processing in-house and send-out test requests as necessary.
- Blood Product Management: Monitor the temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure their suitability for transfusion, and discard any outdated or compromised products.
- Operating Room Support: Check the operating room list to ensure that blood products are available for required surgeries, and issue blood and blood component products as needed.
- Quality Management: Participate actively in the laboratory quality management system and contribute to process improvements to enhance the quality and safety of laboratory services.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technology program or equivalent education (CSMLS).
- Registration: Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
- Experience: Minimum two years recent chemistry, hematology, and transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting, or successful completion of all relevant education/refresher courses within the past two years.
- Skills: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, maintain high productivity, and exhibit professionalism; strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; excellent organizational and communication skills; proven ability to be a team player with strong interpersonal skills; knowledge of Meditech, Paradigm, and other Microsoft Office computer systems.
