About the Role

Aecon is seeking a highly skilled Project Controls Analyst to join our team. As a Project Controls Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of our projects by providing project controls support to ongoing projects and supporting the company's estimating and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Cost Control: Develop and maintain project cost control systems, including setting up project WBS, project cost codes, and project baseline budget.
  • Project Performance Monitoring: Monitor project performance and ensure that the project controls system is properly implemented.
  • Training and Development: Train project teams on how to implement and maintain prescribed change management procedures.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide Aecon management team with project controls summary reports and analyses.
  • Contract Management: Review project contracts and ensure that all contract conditions are applied and fulfilled when setting up the project within Aecon's project controls system.
  • Project Structure and Cost Structure: Participate in setting up and controlling project structure (WBS) and related cost structure (CBS).
  • Estimating and Site Coordination: Coordinate between estimating and site teams to ensure that the project controls system is properly implemented.
  • Change Management: Monitor change management system on site and ensure that project staff understands the system and how changes should be managed and tracked on site and within Aecon's systems.
  • Cost Code Structure: Ensure that project site staff and crew understand the cost code structure of the project and that they are charging their expended hours to the correct codes.
  • Project Controls Reports: Review and analyze project controls reports (i.e. progress and productivity) with the Project Controls Lead and project team and suggest corrective actions to maintain expected performance and productivity.
  • Project Scheduling and Cost Reports: Review and analyze project scheduling and cost reports and suggest corrective actions to maintain the project within planned cost and schedule.
  • Cash Flow Management: Prepare and update project cash flows as required throughout the project life cycle.
  • Mentorship and Supervision: Supervise and mentor developing Project Controls Analysts.
  • Project Reporting and Forecasting: Assist project manager in preparing project monthly reports and forecasting.
  • Project Schedule Maintenance: Assist project scheduler and project team in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining the project schedule.

Requirements
  • Good Knowledge of Earned Value Principles
  • Data Analytics Tools: Experience in data analytics tools including but not limited to advanced MS Excel, Power Query, SAP, and Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Automating Data Flow: Experience in automating data flow and setting up data pipelines would be an asset.
  • SQL and Python: Knowledge/experience in using SQL & Python would be an asset.
  • Business Operational Excellence: Experience developing dashboards, KPIS and analytics in support of business operational excellence.
  • Key Reporting Standards: Design, develop and establish key reporting standards.
  • Scheduling and Scheduling Curves: Ability to read schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Related Experience: Between two and three (2 to 3) years of related experience.
  • Cost Engineering/Cost Control: Good knowledge of cost engineering/cost control.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
  • Interpersonal and Team Skills: Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Continuous Learning: Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail oriented and customer focused.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Effective analytical and problem-solving skill.
  • Hydro and Utilities Experience: Hydro and Utilities experience considered an asset.
  • Education: Post-secondary education - Bachelor of Science (Engineering discipline) or C.E.T.; Bachelor of Commerce.
  • Driver's License and Travel: Valid driver's license and open to travel.
