The Senior Manager, Compliance and AML Data Governance (AML) is a key member of the Compliance and AML Data Governance Team. The mandate of the team is to define and implement data governance and data management standards and processes for the Compliance and AML data domain, aligned with policies defined by the Enterprise Data Governance. The team will collaborate with multiple stakeholders in Compliance and AML and Technology to ensure that data management policies and standards are comprehensive and add value to existing processes while aligning with Bank standards and regulatory requirements.

The incumbent will be part of the Compliance and AML Data Governance team responsible for defining, implementing, and managing Compliance and AML data processes. The incumbent will assist the team in monitoring compliance with Compliance and AML data policies across the Compliance and AML second line organization to ensure the availability of high-quality data. They will also assist with strategy execution of the data governance framework consistent with the organization's goals and objectives.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Effectively contribute to business and data requirements gathering, creation of project documentation, and supporting the project teams to design and develop solutions per these requirements.
  • Interface with senior management; contribute towards ongoing data management improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with the analytics and reporting teams to assist in the gathering of requirements and in implementing the right governance solutions.
  • Support directly or indirectly data quality, data lineage, business definitions, SLA, data sourcing, and master data/reference data initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders including other teams within Compliance and AML, Data Office, and Technology to ensure that the data standards/processes are consistent where possible while aligning with enterprise standards.
  • Support all internal and external regulatory reviews, and support deliverables as a result of review findings.
  • Play a critical role in supporting process enhancement efforts to increase efficiency, including process automation and optimization, establishing SLAs, and creating data quality standards.
  • Contribute in various ways to improve the data understanding and quality for Compliance and AML.
  • Support the implementation of the data governance framework for Compliance and AML that meets data objectives and is aligned with the Data Office.
  • Support interactions with Audit and Regulators.
  • Execute enterprise data governance and data management strategies in line with the organization's business strategy and objectives.
  • Support the creation, implementation, and ongoing support of data policies, standards, and processes.
  • Prepare management and technical presentations and interface with senior management and business users to document business requirements, data and information needs, and data exchange flows.
  • Establish and partner with cross-functional data owners and users (technical and business) and recommend solutions to resolve issues in data policies/standards, data definitions, data usage, data quality, and metrics.
  • Assess data repositories for compliance with data governance policies and standards.
  • Work with all areas of the business to ensure data quality and integrity. Perform research to formulate data governance recommendations (data ownership, data management, and decision-making processes, procedures, and mechanisms).
  • Support the AML data steward by ensuring work efforts and deliverables are compliant with policies, standards, and processes that will drive consistency across Compliance and AML second line.
  • Develop and deliver data governance educational awareness and mentoring materials.
  • Identify and define key business terms, definitions, business rules, quality requirements, and critical data elements. Work with the team to create and maintain a business glossary.
  • Assist the Compliance and AML data steward with metadata management, maintaining business data definitions/business glossary, and data lineage.
  • Implement data lineage/metadata management policies, standards, and processes.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in a quantitative area.
  • Professional financial designation or MBA preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of data governance, data quality, and experience in working cross-functionally within an environment of multiple data repositories, multi-systems, multi-architectures, multi-vendors, and multi-business lines.
  • Ability to work with data, make sense of data, perform assessments on data.
  • Power BI skills are a plus.
  • Experience in working with different areas of the organization to ensure implementation of data governance principles, policies, and standards are incorporated for the specific LOB and facilitate/assist in remediation initiatives for the LOB.
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with LOB, Information management, and Technology groups and providing a single point of contact for interactions.
  • Experience interfacing with Audit or Regulators.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written/verbal), teamwork, coordination, and consensus-building skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry, AML, Compliance and Risk management.
  • Excellent skills in leadership, project management, time management, analysis & process design, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical clients, synthesize complex or diverse information, and use intuition and experience to articulate business needs by identifying activities that may be improved using technology.
  • Leadership ability to make decisions involving uncertainty using logic, thereby formulating a clear rationale based on available information, exercising sound and accurate judgment, supporting, and explaining reasoning for decisions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking initiative and exhibiting creativity and adaptability in problem-solving.
