Unit Clerk, Radiation Oncology

Join our team at BC Cancer, a leader in cancer care, as a Unit Clerk in Radiation Oncology. This role is part of our Provincial Programs, and you will have the opportunity to work remotely with occasional on-site work at a regional BC Cancer Centre.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional care and support. You will be recognized for your keen observation skills, compassionate communication, and organizational talent. Your ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment will make you an invaluable member of our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe and process clinician orders, scheduling tests and services, and communicating with patients and families.
  • Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, coordinating appointments and preparing instructions for patients.
  • Gather patient information for medical appointments, facilitating efficient patient flow and preparing documents for the clinical team.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including greeting patients, registering them, and answering phone calls and inquiries.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year of recent, related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, physically able to carry out the duties of the position, and able to keyboard 40 w.p.m.
  • Ability to organize work, operate related equipment, and utilize computer software applications.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
