Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada Queer Yukon Society Full time

It's happening Queer Yukon Society is looking for an Executive Director. Please share this with your awesome contacts far-and-wide.

About Us

Queer Yukon Society has been organizing Pride in Whitehorse (and now across the Yukon) since 2013, and now operates over 20 year-round programs in three locations that support 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners and bring together 2SLGBTQIA+ and allied Yukoners to build a strong and vibrant community.

Our vision is for 2SLGBTQIA+ people to thrive in the Yukon, living openly and safely in supportive communities, free from colonial constructs of gender and sexuality. We aim to achieve this vision through advocacy, creating opportunities for community connection, promoting a welcoming space, and promoting safety, justice, health, and mental wellness within and for our community.

Since officially incorporating in 2018, we have grown from a scrappy team of volunteers to a unionized workplace with 15+ staff and 8 board members. Following several years of growth and capacity building, we are eager to establish ourselves as a collaborative partner to other Yukon entities and a springboard for 2SLGBTQIA+ community initiatives.

Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced non-profit manager, community developer and advocate to lead this exciting work as a full time Executive Director. This person will be a highly collaborative partner and team player, one who thrives on growth and forward momentum, helping the organization achieve its strategic and operational priorities and fostering an inclusive and progressive organizational culture.

Our ideal candidate will be energized to work with the board and staff to continue developing the operational framework for long term sustainability. They will work with staff to design and maintain a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture. We rely on our leader to be the one who brings people together, motivates them to achieve targeted results, and is able to inspire the ongoing support of our community and partners.

Queer Yukon Society prides itself on being a supportive, learning-oriented environment, and we would like to hire someone with deep ties to Yukon communities. We encourage people who are interested in the position but would require some training to put their names forward or reach out to discuss the position further.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director is a full time position reporting to the Board of Directors and responsible for:

Overseeing primary operations in Whitehorse, Dawson City and Watson Lake, including leading and managing a diverse staff team of 15+ full-time, part-time and seasonal positions.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with local and national partner organizations, community members, employees, funders and other stakeholders.

Leading the collaborative development, implementation, evaluation and improvement organizational programs and initiatives with program staff.

Securing and managing operational funding, grant applications and reports.

Ensuring financial management and reporting to ensure fiscal responsibility, with the support of the Finance Manager.

Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Representing QYS at local, territorial, and national meetings and events.

Reporting regularly to the Board of Directors, attending Board of Directors meetings, and ensuring administrative support is provided to the Board.
