About the Role

West Fraser is seeking a highly skilled Planning Forester to join our team in Hinton, Alberta. As a Planning Forester, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of our timber development activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field work, including cut block and road layout, to ensure efficient and sustainable harvesting practices.
  • Design and implement harvest area plans that incorporate environmental values and stakeholder considerations.
  • Collaborate with government and First Nations stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and community engagement.
  • Administer contracts and supervise forestry operations to ensure high-quality results.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including landowners, community groups, and government agencies.
Requirements
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Professional Forester Tech (RPFT) designation for Alberta (or eligibility to obtain this designation).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain a high level of physical fitness.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in harvest area design and layout, with a strong understanding of sustainable forestry practices.
