Job Description

Technical Investment Analyst, Canadian Legacy and Inforce Management

Locations: Waterloo, Halifax or Greater Toronto Area

Working Hours: Current (temporary) 1pm – 9pm EST (Can work remotely)

Long-Term 9am – 5pm EST (Will be Hybrid, in office 3 days per week)

Description

The Canadian Segment Legacy & Inforce Management team focuses on Portfolio Optimization, one of Manulife's key strategic priorities, as well as Inforce Management. The team is responsible for identifying opportunities and executing initiatives to improve the value of inforce blocks. The team's mandate is to improve the Canadian Segment ROE, generate free capital, reduce risk, and improve remittances for the company. The ongoing management of inforce business is the other primary focus of the team.

Reporting to the Director of Canadian Legacy & Inforce Management, the Technical Investment Analyst is responsible for the daily updating of Manulife's administrative systems with Retail and Institutional pricing files, various rates, index values and stock prices accurately in a time sensitive environment. The incumbent is the key contact for stakeholders when issues related to interest rate crediting arise, which happens quite frequently.

The position currently entails working an afternoon shift beginning at 1pm and finishing when all prices have been uploaded, usually around 9 pm. Overtime may be required due to delays in processing. The incumbent will play a key role in altering the processes and deliverables to transition the team in the near future to a 9am – 5pm workday.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather a variety of financial inputs (government and corporate bond yields, FX rates, equity index values, stock prices, mutual fund values, seg fund values, etc.) from various sources on a daily basis, validating accuracy within defined thresholds and investigating issues.
  • Run and upload all Universal Life crediting rates for GIA, Equity-Linked, and Managed Investment Accounts to administrative systems, supporting client-level rate-crediting for over $8B of assets under management, validating accuracy of all calculated rates within defined thresholds and investigating / reporting issues.
  • Validate accuracy of the upload of rates to 7 administrative systems (CATS, CLAS, Capsil 4.2, Ingenium, PS, MPS, and APV).
  • Prepare Weekly and Monthly Marketing materials relating to all crediting rates calculated and ensure materials are posted to advisor and client facing outlets.
  • Support a number of additional adhoc / manual processes, including data gathering, rate calculation, reporting, etc. for departmental, cross-departmental, and external stakeholders.
  • Recommend systems enhancements and other operational opportunities to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Automate various manual processes.
  • Manage the document and procedure library, ensuring that procedures and job aids are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Act as a liaison between stakeholders for any delays or issues.
  • Support junior staff with training, scheduling, processing issues, etc., and perform validation of their work as required
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic work environment where the timing of data availability changes day to day.
  • Validation, problem resolution and continuous improvement of business processes.
  • Serves as internal SME to other roles for escalations, problem solving, consulting
  • Serve as lead and/or liaison for departmental and cross-departmental projects and participate in collaborative initiatives
  • Support vendor management
  • Perform internal testing, quality assurance, and other auditing functions to ensure the integrity of department processing and workflow
  • Facilitate problem solving and remedial action by collaborating with internal stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • University or college degree in Computer Science, Finance or Mathematics, or comparable education with 2+ years of experience in in a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in SQL, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Excel based macros).
  • Familiarity with Power Query and Power BI.
  • A quick learner.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong data gathering, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and easily to changes within the business.
  • Work well under pressure and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.
  • Able to work overtime hours is a necessity.

Primary Location

Salary range is expected to be between

$56,400.00 CAD - $94,000.00 CAD
