The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Area Manager to join our Canada Gas Operations - Glacier Valley team, based in Cranbrook, BC.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager for NGTL, Canada Gas Operations Southern NGTL Flow Path, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, reliable operations and maintenance of TC Energy's Gas Compression Assets spanning across South-West Alberta through to the East Kootenay area.

What you'll do

As Area Manager you are responsible to:

  • Provide leadership to continuously improve your teams' business performance in terms of health, safety and environment, regulatory compliance, reliability and productivity
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, provincial, and local regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures pertaining to operations and maintenance
  • Ensure the effective turnover to operations of new capital projects
  • Understand and manage facility risks, reliability and performance
  • Understand and implement Canada Gas Operations Strategies and commercial impacts
  • Effectively manage all resources including people, finances, materials and time to ensure maximum efficiency in planning, forecasting, and implementation
  • Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence
  • Actively participate in the development of goals and objectives from Lines of Business (LOB) to Area level and lead the efforts to achieve these goals in the Area
  • Manage Operations and Maintenance contracts, understand Commercial Agreements and Asset Management Plans
  • Effectively work and interact with peers to optimize regional results and contribute to company success
  • Ensure that TC Energy has a positive and visible image in the communities within the Area and actively engage with key Stakeholders
  • Manage and coordinate emergency response with a requirement to be on-call to respond to emergency situations

As a Leader in the Area Field Operations, you will be required to:

  • Build a strong, competent, proactive and engaged team
  • Be responsible for staff development and succession planning for your team
  • Provide team members with effective mentoring, feedback and coaching with appropriate rewards and recognition
  • Continue to develop your leadership competencies while maintaining a current knowledge of company business, strategy, goals and objectives
  • Manage and coordinate emergency response with a requirement to be on call and, to respond to emergency situations
  • Travel to various field and office locations across the region to meet with team members and other field staff, up to a 30% time commitment

As a member of the South NGTL LOB Leadership Team, you will be required to:

  • Work collaboratively to establish the LOB's priorities, strategy, goals and business plan
  • Commit to the execution of the LOB's business plan
  • Represent TC Energy and foster critical partnerships both internally and externally
  • Be a champion of change initiatives
  • Participate in CGO initiatives and manage issues when required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in a relevant field of study
  • 10 years of relevant work experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
  • An excellent track record of development and execution of plans
  • Experience with conflict resolution and problem-solving tools and processes
  • Experience in effective resource allocation and utilization in the financial, people and procurement areas
  • Demonstrated leadership in the health, safety, and environment, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building areas
  • Related experience in a managerial or leadership type setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and familiarity with TC Energy's business vision, strategies, practices, processes and systems
  • Experience with application of TC Energy's Leadership competencies and a commitment to career development

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • This will involve some overnight stays away from home base
