Position Overview

The Department of Surgery in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time positions are for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Coordinator will initially work with a small but diverse group of surgeon and academic researchers to facilitate establishment and progress on several proposed projects. The main project that the Research Coordinator will be working on will be the Calgary Kids' Hand Rule a prediction model for hand fracture triage in pediatric patients.

Reporting to the Prinicpal Investigator.

This is a recurring part time position with variable hours. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Plans and coordinates the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures
  • Initiates, submits and responds to REB applications
  • Recruits and coordinates research subjects, as appropriate to the eligibility of the study
  • Tracks enrolment status of subjects and documents dropout information such as causes and subject contact methods
  • Plan, implements and maintains databases and other modes of data collection and analysis systems in support for the research protocol
  • Ensures the efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection services
  • Works with different co-investigators to identify and apply for external funding
  • Where applicable, works with the co-investigators to hire and manage project-specific Research Assistants and Statistical Analysts
  • Communications with co-investigators not situated at the Alberta Children's Hospital, including those at other AHS sites and those at institutions across the country and beyond (e.g., in the case of multi-centre studies)
  • Performs other tasks as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in a health-related field
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of University policies including submission of projects to ethics boards
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects
  • Fluent in English; excellent communication skills
  • Computer literacy MS Windows, Word, Excel, MS Outlook and MS Access
  • Familiarity with setting up and manipulating basic databases, including but not exclusive to Excel and REDCap
  • Must be able to work independently and with others
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Effective communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in recruiting participants and consenting participants will be considered an asset
  • Experience in scientific writing will be considered an asset
  • Experience with research activities and resources at Alberta Children's Hospital will be considered an asset
