Position Overview

The Alberta Children ́s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) and Human Resources invites applications for a HR Advisor, One Child Every Child. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The One Child Every Child (OCEC) initiative is set to rewrite Canada's narrative in child-health outcomes. This ambitious initiative is more than an investment in research; it's a profound commitment to every child's right to optimal health and the brightest possible future.

The Advisor,One Child Every Child is a two-year term position reporting jointly to the Manager, People, Processes and Solutions in Human Resources and the One Child Every Child Program Manager, ACHRI. This position will support the values, operational and strategic direction of OCEC. The position works directly with managers and provides consistent support within the guidelines of the University, the collective agreements, policies and procedures and legislation, in order to understand and work within human resources processes, priorities and strategies; reduce risk associated with potential grievances, complaints or other disputes; to effectively manage the OCEC operations and effectively offer positive HR experiences.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Prepares job profiles in consultation with VPR/PI, partners with Total Rewards for review and classification.
  • Provides recruitment consulting/advising services, within the context of the University of Calgary HR principles and systems, to support timely recruitment of project resources
  • Administers the full cycle recruitment process from job posting and screening to offer letter and hire.
  • Ensures the recruitment process follows established practices and procedures and is compliant with any relevant collective agreement.
  • Works closely with HR Partner for VP Research in support of any complex HR client needs (e.g. out of province remote work).
  • Working closely with Immigration Services, the advisor may advise on immigration related issues such as LMIA's, work permits and SIN referring to experts when required.
  • Provides consistent recruitment and hiring advice within the guidelines of the University, the Collective Agreements, the Alberta Labour and Human Rights Laws and any other applicable legislation to reduce risk associated with potential grievances.
  • Assists the hiring manager with TBH hiring for casual employees and processes hourly job in the system.
  • Administers the compensation processes and practices in compliance with guidelines and parameters determined by Total Rewards &/or within the Collective Agreement(s).
  • Supports Job review, consulting and supporting managers in accurate update job profiles in accordance with the job review process.
  • Manages expiring appointments and ensure extensions are discussed and submitting in a timely manner following the established processes.
  • Supports the manager regarding job changes.
  • Submission of forms such as Job Opening Request, Job Change Request, etc. at the request of managers.
  • Coordinate hires with the One Child Every Child administrative team and program manager.
  • Assist with onboarding activities for One Child Every Child employees.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post secondary education in a related field (e.g. Human Resources, Business Administration).
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of recent, related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills are required, with the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines, set priorities, manage competing deadlines, and meet commitments.
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to deal with issues and concerns.
  • High degree of initiative, requiring minimal supervision.
  • A commitment to learning, variety in work and doing what it takes to get the job done.
  • Experience working in a unionized and post-secondary environment is an asset.
  • Ability to function independently and also as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationship and collaborate with internal and external clients.
  • Strong proficiency with Word, Excel, PeopleSoft or other HRIS.
