Main Purpose and Function
The Program Assistant III – Integration Program Assistant (IPA) is a crucial part of the integrated and inclusive summer camp program. This position assists in providing on-going disability awareness and support to city-wide day camps.

The IPA assists the Recreation Programmer I in overseeing the inclusion aspects of 4 community association summer day camps and in assisting community centre association summer day camps with Behaviour Support Workers or an equivalent. This includes assisting with the training and on-going support of inclusion staff. The IPA assists the Recreation Programmer I with the registration and assessments of all campers requiring support (approximately 20 campers a week) and works with families and support networks to develop strategies for the successful inclusion of children and youth with disabilities. This position also assists in the planning, organizing, evaluating and reporting on a number of special events, programs and training sessions.

Qualifications
Education and ExperienceCompletion of an approved diploma course in recreation and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Experience supporting individuals with developmental and or physical disabilities to be actively involved in a community settingExperience conducting assessments of potential participantsExperience motivating, leading, managing and creating an effective teamExperience directly working as part of a day camp teamExperience and knowledge in the area of access and inclusionValid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is requiredFirst Aid Level I is requiredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesSound knowledge of the safety practices, policies, regulations and rules applicable to the work performed.Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and developmentSome knowledge of modern office practices and proceduresSome knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of recreational programs and activities as related to the work performedSome knowledge of basic marketing and advertisingAbility to coordinate, deliver and participate in various special events and oversee activities and programs offered in an assigned areaAbility to plan, assign, review and supervise the work of one or more Program Assistants.Ability to maintain control and exercise discipline with tact and consistencyAbility to maintain records and perform a variety of routine clerical tasks related to the work performed.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to deal with same with tact and diplomacyA Police Record Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.

A current and valid BC Driver's preferred is required. The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements of the Department.
