Job Description:
The Senior Underwriter / Team Lead will be accountable for overseeing the day-to-day activities and performance management of a team of underwriters. This includes providing advice and expertise related South Western Group's Commercial Liability programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for underwriting tasks to achieve targeted goals within the product portfolio
  • Lead team performance through proactive coaching, employee development and performance appraisals
  • Review risk submissions within assigned authority limits – primarily, but not exclusively, through file and call audits. Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines
  • Secure additional information and review endorsements where necessary and analyze all pertinent data to determine acceptability of risks according to established underwriting standards
  • Assist in preparing submissions for higher underwriting review
  • Coach brokers for success and improvement to enhance underwriting capabilities, provide market and underwriting insight
  • Maintaining the profitability of your portfolio through superior risk analysis, determining the quality of risk and making necessary recommendations on new business and renewals
  • Negotiating coverage, policy terms and premium rates with clients, referring business exceeding authority level to the appropriate level
  • Contacting external resources as required for additional information pertaining to the risk
  • Participating actively with brokers in terms of promoting products, developing and maintaining positive relationships and business development
  • Ensuring proper file documentation and organization within the SWG InsureVue Operating System
  • Uplifting technical knowledge of yourself and the team through mentoring, coaching, training and meetings with colleagues and direct reports
  • Mentor / train junior underwriter(s) and technical assistant(s)

The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual and collaborator who is client focused, proactive in dealing with situations and uses critical judgment to make decisions and offer solutions. The person will also demonstrate the following:
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related field, such as mathematics, finance, economics, business or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting, (Allied Health, Senior Care)
  • CIP Certification or equivalent
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven mathematical and analytical skills
  • Considerable experience in a highly service-oriented role
  • Effective problem solver with initiative to be innovative and creative with developing new ideas and concepts
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks and move between projects continuously

Description du poste :
Le souscripteur senior/chef d'équipe est responsable de la supervision des activités quotidiennes et de la gestion des performances d'une équipe de souscripteurs.   • Examiner les soumissions de risques dans le cadre des limites d'autorité attribuées - principalement, mais pas exclusivement, par le biais d'audits de dossiers et d'appels. Évaluer, accepter, rejeter ou modifier les risques dans le cadre des lignes directrices établies en matière de souscription
  • Obtenir des informations complémentaires, examiner les avenants si nécessaire et analyser toutes les données pertinentes afin de déterminer l'acceptabilité des risques conformément aux normes de souscription établies
  • Aider à la préparation des soumissions en vue d'un examen plus approfondi de la souscription
  • Vous êtes en charge de l'organisation et de la mise en œuvre de l'ensemble des activités de l'entreprise, de l'élaboration des plans d'action, de l'organisation et de la mise en œuvre de l'ensemble des activités du groupe
  • Maintenir la rentabilité de votre portefeuille par une analyse supérieure des risques, en déterminant la qualité des risques et en faisant les recommandations nécessaires sur les nouvelles affaires et les renouvellements
  • Négocier la couverture, les conditions de la police et les taux de prime avec les clients, en renvoyant les affaires dépassant le niveau d'autorité au niveau approprié
  • Contacter des ressources externes, le cas échéant, pour obtenir des informations supplémentaires sur le risque
  • Participer activement avec les courtiers à la promotion des produits, au développement et au maintien de relations positives et au développement des affaires
