Technical Consultant sought to implement processes, systems, and projects for efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of Toronto Hydro's Database infrastructure.
The Technical Consultant will report to the Manager, Infrastructure Operations, and be responsible for implementing processes, systems, and projects that contribute to the efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of Toronto Hydro's Database infrastructure.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies, and internal control procedures, laws, and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.
Key Responsibilities:- Hands-on database management, performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, monitoring, and Disaster Recovery of Oracle 12c & 19c
- Migrates and upgrades existing databases
- Troubleshoots (diagnose & resolve) production issues
- Installs and configures new databases
- Provides after-hours database support
- Creates, maintains, and tests disaster recovery plans
- Routinely applies latest security patches, completes health checks, and other preventative measures
- Documents Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensures compliance with all appropriate architecture and security standards
- Undergraduate degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
- Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in Database Administration
- Mandatory experience with the following:
- Oracle database administration on Unix (AIX preferred)
- Performance tuning and debugging
- RMAN, Grid Control, and ASM
- Setting up and maintaining Physical/Logical DataGuard
- Monitoring and alerting tools such as OEM 19c
- Strong communication skills: Ability to verbally communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences
- Analyze and Solve Problems: Gathers relevant information systematically; considers a broad range of issues or factors
- Make Sound Decisions: Makes timely and sound decisions; makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty
- Innovative: Generates and champions new ideas and initiatives
- Manage Small upgrade Projects: Manages client expectations; keeps others informed about projects
- Work Collaboratively: Willingly shares information; facilitates the discussion and resolution of different views
- Demonstrate Drive and Commitment: Strives to attain results; conveys a sense of urgency and drives issues to closure
- Use Technical/Functional Expertise: Possesses up-to-date knowledge in the profession and industry
Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement, allowing for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.
