Rehabilitation Assistant - Nursing, OT, PT position available at Queen's Park Care Centre in New Westminster, BC, working with patients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and stroke rehabilitation.

The Rehabilitation Assistant will work under the direction of a professional nurse and in cooperation with the interprofessional care team to implement treatment plans and assist in monitoring patient progress. Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
  • Observing and reporting cognitive and functional changes in patient ability or behavior.
  • Providing input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of the treatment plan.
  • Performing various tests and recording relevant data for interpretation by the therapist.
  • Preparing and applying therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT.
  • Providing functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication.
  • Assisting with power and manual wheelchair mobility training.
  • Maintaining therapy equipment and supplies.

Qualifications include:

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
