The Rehabilitation Assistant will work under the direction of a professional nurse and in cooperation with the interprofessional care team to implement treatment plans and assist in monitoring patient progress. Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
- Observing and reporting cognitive and functional changes in patient ability or behavior.
- Providing input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of the treatment plan.
- Performing various tests and recording relevant data for interpretation by the therapist.
- Preparing and applying therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT.
- Providing functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication.
- Assisting with power and manual wheelchair mobility training.
- Maintaining therapy equipment and supplies.
Qualifications include:
- Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
