Portfolio Monitoring Actuary

Toronto, Ontario, Canada Swiss Re Full time

Are you an experienced reinsurance professional looking for a new challenge?

We are looking for a motivated and collaborative individual with a balance of strong technical and stakeholder management skills to play an important role in the Portfolio Monitoring Americas team, with primary focus on the US market unit. The role is open to other locations for the right fit.

About the Role

In this role you will work closely with colleagues in the Market Units, central functions and, from time to time, external clients to enable effective management of the business and strengthen our in-force resilience. This will involve:

  • Enabling and enhancing L&H Smart Circles, with primary focus on the US market unit.
    • Including maintaining strong feedback loops, and alignment, between relevant cross-functional teams to enable understanding of risks and opportunities, and timely actions in response.
  • Identifying and monitoring key portfolio risks, and improving our monitoring capabilities via data and tech.
  • Supporting the Market Unit in proactively managing and enhancing our in-force book, in close collaboration with the In-Force Optimisation team. Including:
    • Identifying underperforming business.
    • Performing deep dive investigations to understand risks to or drivers of performance.
    • Proposing, and supporting execution of, actions.
  • Providing expert input and guidance on decisions around management of our in-force, including IFRS considerations.
  • Collaborating within the Portfolio Steering & Monitoring team to connect across the different market units, bringing ideas and insights across regions
  • Supporting Group-wide and local projects as required, including other priorities of the L&H PSM team.

About the Team

Our team is part of L&H Portfolio Steering & Monitoring (PSM), within the Chief Underwriting Office (CUO). PSM aims to generate insights and connect our business to proactively steer L&H in delivering sustainable profit. In this case, that means close collaboration with the US, Canada and Latin America market units as well as other functions across the L&H community.

This role will have a broad remit to support the US Market Unit. As part of us building up the Portfolio Monitoring Americas team, there is also the opportunity to influence the direction of the team by steering our collective goals and priorities, to best support the Market Units.

About You

Technical Skills and Knowledge

You:

  • Are a qualified actuary, or have other comparable experience/qualifications.
  • Have a very good broad understanding of L&H reinsurance, and of underwriting risks. Relevant US market and product knowledge would be highly advantageous.
  • Possess strong analytical skills. Experience working with large data sets and relevant analytics tools (e.g. Stargate, R Programming or Power BI) would be an asset.
  • Have a good working understanding of the financial reporting frameworks relevant to Swiss Re (e.g. IFRS17).

Other Skills

You:

  • Work collaboratively to bring teams together across different functional areas.
  • Are a strong communicator, with experience of presenting complex topics to cross-functional groups.
  • Can drive change and have proven influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Can manage priorities to ensure that tangible outcomes are delivered, managing expectations and striking the right balance between detail and pragmatism.
  • Are fluent in written and spoken English

We are looking forward to your application
