Are you a transportation planning expert looking for a challenging role? We have an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Engineering Coordinator to join our team at the City of Toronto.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Engineering Coordinator will coordinate the review and evaluation of development applications, and Committee of Adjustment applications, with respect to all transportation-related aspects. This includes formulating recommendations on mitigation measures for operational impact of major projects, providing a detailed review of transportation-related studies, and ensuring that the municipal road network will accommodate the vehicle, cycling and pedestrian traffic generated by development proposals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate recommendations on mitigation measures for operational impact of major projects
  • Provide a detailed review of transportation-related studies
  • Ensure that the municipal road network will accommodate the vehicle, cycling and pedestrian traffic generated by development proposals
  • Consult with other sections in Transportation Services, other City divisions, Agencies/Boards/Commissions, external stakeholders and other government agencies to coordinate the review of development applications
  • Assign to staff, prioritize and track the review of traffic impact studies/development applications, and provide quality control
  • Prepare and submit staff memos/reports to Council and Committees of Council that are technically and grammatically accurate, and are completed in a timely fashion in accordance with Council deadlines for review/signature
  • Represent the Division at developer/consultant meetings, community meetings, various committees and Community Council
  • Prepare evidence and provide expert testimony at the Ontario Land Tribunal and the Toronto Local Appeal Body, as required
  • Implement detailed plans and recommend policies/procedures regarding program-specific requirements
  • Liaise and consult with elected officials, developers, consultants and the public on the review of transportation impacts from development applications
  • Communicate and explain technical requirements and rationalize/defend recommendations and decisions made on development applications
  • Review legal/development agreements to ensure that transportation-related requirements are accurately and appropriately represented
  • Coordinate the processing of permit applications for temporary and permanent access to public streets from a traffic planning perspective, including the review of proposals to close public highways for the purpose of eventual sale or jurisdictional transfer
  • Coordinate the receipt of deposits and paying of refunds to developers and participates in the traffic planning budget process
  • Provide technical input for capital works and environmental assessment projects
  • Research, review, and provide recommendations on road network improvements
  • Provide transportation input to area-wide planning studies
  • Conduct site visits and/or field studies, as required
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Engineering, Transportation Planning or a related discipline from a recognized university or technical college, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable experience in Transportation Planning and/or Transportation Engineering
  • Considerable experience in analyzing and interpreting the results of various transportation studies (such as Traffic Impact Studies, Parking Studies, Transportation Corridor Studies, etc.)
  • Experience using specialized computerized software in the field of Transportation Planning (i.e. Synchro/SimTraffic, etc.)
