Job Summary:

We are looking for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse/RN to provide professional nursing services for patients with complex and unpredictable health needs. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services or designate, providing independent nursing services, administering interventions and treatments, and facilitating coordination of patient care and discharge.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide professional nursing services for patients with complex and unpredictable health needs. Administer interventions and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Facilitate coordination of patient care and discharge. Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care. Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients. Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, making adjustments to care plans as needed. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of safety and excellence.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Psychiatric Nursing program or approved Registered Nursing program.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses/Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses.
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Registered Psychiatric/Registered Nurses Act.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Principles of delegation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent, related mental health experience.
  • Competency in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledge in Aboriginal customs, traditions and values.
