Job Summary:This is a full-time, 18-month term position responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation, leisure, sport, and fitness activities for our community.
Key Responsibilities:- Researches, plans, develops, coordinates, and implements recreation, leisure, sport, and fitness programs to meet community needs.
- Supervises, trains, motivates, directs, and evaluates subordinate staff and contracted services.
- Makes recommendations for program development based on identified community needs.
- Prepares budgets for programs and events in coordination with the Supervisor, Recreation Services.
- Assists in long-range planning and budgeting for areas of responsibility.
- Seeks out grant and sponsorship opportunities to support and enhance programs and events.
- Maintains ongoing communication with community members and user groups to determine their needs and interests.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and recommends changes as required.
- Ensures that summer camp staff, contracted services, and volunteers meet high standards of efficiency and customer service.
- Supervises, leads, and participates in programming activities as required.
- Assists with and facilitates regional programs and competitions.
- Assists in customer service training, program training opportunities, and volunteer recognition programs.
- Assists the Supervisor, Recreation Services, to ensure recreation programming information is marketed and made available to the Region.
- Assists in conducting regular safety meetings for staff.
- Monitors the use of equipment and facilities to ensure they are being used properly.
- Assists in the administration of preventative maintenance of equipment pertaining to fitness, programs, and special events.
- Records information on and prepares monthly reports regarding community programs, fitness programs, their costs, numbers of participants, equipment, and facility use.
- Maintains familiarity with all applicable legislation, policies, and procedures regarding sport, recreation, and leisure activities, events, and competitions.
- Ensures that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Graduation from a recognized Diploma program in Recreation or related field.
- Minimum of one to three years' experience in community-based programming.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- WHMIS Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Ability to train summer staff, contracted workers, and volunteers to properly deliver program services.
- Proficient technical skills and natural aptitude in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using Intelli recreation management software is an asset.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage own workload, including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to prepare reports and deliver public presentations.
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Experience in event planning.
- Well-developed public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough understanding of the principles, techniques, and delivery of recreation services.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures pertaining to program delivery.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- The 2024 starting wage for this position is $32.27 per hour.
- Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends may be required when needed.
- Additionally, you will receive a free family membership to the JBS Canada Centre during your term of employment.
