**JOB DETAILS**:
This position is responsible for the delivery of all municipal recreation, leisure, sport and fitness programs and activities for all community residents. Under general direction of the Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Recreation Program Coordinator performs professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and supervising recreation, leisure, sport and fitness activities for the community.
The Program Coordinator will strive to ensure quality recreation, leisure, sport and fitness programs are carried through. In the absence of the Supervisor of Recreation Services, the Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for reporting in detail the outcomes for each program.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Researches, plans, develops, coordinates, and implements recreation, leisure, sport and fitness programs in order to ensure that activities and events are made available for all community members;
- Supervises, trains, motivates, directs and evaluates subordinate staff and contracted services within approved personnel policies and the collective agreement;
- Makes recommendations for program development based on identified community needs;
- Prepares budgets for programs and events in coordination with the Supervisor, Recreation Services;
- Assists in the long-range planning and budgeting for areas of responsibility;
- Seeks out grant and sponsorship opportunities to support and enhance programs and events;
- Maintains ongoing communication with community members and user groups to determine their needs and interests;
- Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and recommends changes as required;
- Ensures that summer camp staff, contracted services and volunteers meet the high standards of efficiency and customer service required during program delivery;
- Supervises, leads and participates fully in programming activities as required;
- Assists with and facilitates regional programs and competitions;
- Assists in customer service training, program training opportunities and volunteer recognition programs;
- Assists the Supervisor, Recreation Services to ensure recreation programming information is marketed and made available to the Region;
- Assists Supervisor, Recreation Services in conducting regular safety meetings for their staff;
- Monitors the use of equipment and facilities to ensure they are being used properly;
- Assists in the administration of the preventative maintenance of all equipment pertaining to fitness, program and special events. Ensures that records are maintained according to prescribed standards and that there is an inventory of equipment and parts needed;
- Records information on and prepares monthly reports regarding community programs, fitness programs; their costs, numbers of participants, equipment and facility use;
- Maintains familiarity with all applicable legislation, policies and procedures regarding sport, recreation and leisure activities, events and competitions;
- Ensures that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies and procedures; and,
- Performs other related duties as required.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- Graduation from a recognized Diploma program in Recreation or related field;
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in community-based programming;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification;
- WHMIS Certificate;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence;
- Ability to train summer staff, contracted workers and volunteers to properly deliver program services;
- Experience using Intelli recreation management software is an asset;
- Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines;
- Effective verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to prepare reports and deliver public presentations;
- Ability to work under limited supervision;
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required;
- Experience in event planning;
- Well-developed public relations, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Thorough understanding of the principles, techniques and delivery of recreation services;
