The University of Alberta is seeking an exceptional emerging researcher with expertise in islet biology and the pathogenesis of diabetes to join the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and Alberta Diabetes Institute.
**Job Description:**
* Develop an innovative research program in islet biology and diabetes pathogenesis
* Lead an innovative and productive research program supported by peer-reviewed funding
* Hold a PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in health research
* Relevant postdoctoral experience in working with human islets
* Plan to develop an independent academic research program related to diabetes pathogenesis
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Conduct research in islet biology and diabetes pathogenesis
* Develop and lead a research program with a focus on human islets and/or stem-cell based approaches
* Teach undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry
* Participate in departmental and faculty service activities
**Requirements:**
* PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Physiology or a related field
* Relevant postdoctoral experience in working with human islets
* A plan to develop an independent academic research program related to diabetes pathogenesis
* Experience with use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in modeling diabetes pathogenesis
