Aecon is seeking a Sr. IDD GIS Specialist to foster GIS innovation and provide technical expertise to clients and business partners.

Aecon is a market leader in infrastructure development, with a strong presence in Canada's transportation networks. Our IDD department is responsible for providing geospatial solutions to support infrastructure planning and development.

The Sr. IDD GIS Specialist will work closely with the Geospatial Manager and IDD staff to design and implement 3D geospatial/BIM solutions for regulatory and permitting elements of infrastructure projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing 3D geospatial/BIM solutions for infrastructure projects
  • Creating basic FME scripts to automate workflows in FME desktop/server
  • Creating 3D maps, databases, and other deliverables for ongoing bid/execution projects
  • Mentoring and training junior GIS staff
  • Independently organizing and conducting large spatial analyses
  • Developing vector and raster spatial analysis models using Spatial ModelBuilder, Python, or other GIS scripting languages
  • Developing and supporting web GIS applications using Esri Web App Builder, Operations Dashboards, Story Maps, Collector, Survey 123 within ArcGIS Enterprise platform
  • Creating maps, databases, and other deliverables on short notice
  • Site travel will be required 20% of the time within Ontario (mostly GTA)

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree/diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or a related discipline, and 5-10 years of experience working with Esri GIS applications. Key skills include:

  • Advanced knowledge of ESRI tools, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Knowledge of Python, Arcade, JavaScript, FME, SQL, HTML, and Esri Model Builder
  • Experience with Autodesk software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
