The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urban Forestry Safety and Training Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Board of Parks & Recreation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff and the public.
About the Role:
- Monitor regulatory compliance and provide safety and best practice consultation services to supervisors and management within Urban Forestry Operations and Park Operations.
- Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, recommend, and assist in the development and delivery of practical controls and training for safety hazards, regulatory compliance, and best practice.
- Investigate safety concerns and incidents, and provide recommendations to management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research urban forestry best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Advise and consult with management on best practices and compliance requirements.
- Mentor and coach management, supervisors, and crew on new processes and practices.
- Conduct comprehensive onsite risk assessments and safety studies, and write evaluative reports recommending measures to mitigate occupational health and safety risk.
- Conduct monthly tailboard site inspections with supervisors and superintendents.
- Attend and participate in monthly Crew talks.
- Investigate safety incidents and concerns, and provide recommendations on change procedures and practice.
- Prepare and deliver safety and operational training programs.
- Oversee and plan Occupational First Aid, Aerial and Bucket Rescue, ISA, and TRAQ Training.
- Maintain a workplace accident database and related records.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized certificate/diploma program in occupational health and safety, and sound related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, rules, and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures used in occupational health and safety risk assessments and accident investigations.
- Considerable knowledge of occupational health and safety and audit trail recordkeeping requirements and standards.
- Working knowledge of applicable WorkSafeBC Regulations related to urban forestry.
- Working knowledge of current curriculum of arborist certifications.
- Knowledge of Urban Forestry principles and techniques.
- Proficient in standard Microsoft business software.
