**Job Responsibilities:**
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients admitted to the designated Palliative Complex Care Unit
• Collect patient information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment
• Consult and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team about patient care
• Act as an advocate to protect and promote the patient's rights to autonomy, cultural competence, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information
• Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data
• Participate in the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards, and procedures
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures
**Qualifications:**
• Graduation from an approved school of Nursing
• One year recent acute medical/surgical nursing or acute palliative care experience, plus completion of a certificate in the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
**Skills and Abilities:**
• Demonstrated understanding of the scope of practice of other healthcare disciplines
• Demonstrated knowledge in the field of palliative care
• Demonstrated ability to apply clinical knowledge in practice
• Demonstrated ability to determine and deal with emergency situations and make appropriate clinical decisions
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Demonstrated ability to work with patients/families living with and dying from advanced illness
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve and troubleshoot in a variety of situations
• Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
