Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist, Orientation and Mobility to join our team at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals who are blind or partially sighted to develop or restore activities of daily living skills, promote independence, enhance safety and mobility.
About the Role:
- Conduct assessments and develop personalized orientation and mobility service plans for individuals with vision loss.
- Teach concept development, spatial and sensory awareness, pre-cane skills, cane techniques, and travel skills.
- Provide information and lessons in the use of electronic travel aids.
- Act as a resource person for information regarding guide dog schools and provide skill development to prepare individuals to work with a guide dog.
- Maintain accurate and detailed case data and documentation.
- Perform administrative duties, including service tracking, benchmarking, and report writing.
About the Ideal Candidate:
- Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program or Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation.
- ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good command of relevant computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
