About this opportunity:

Cenovus has several opportunities for Staff Geologists. The geoscientist will be responsible for enhancing, transferring, and influencing both best practices in our SAGD assets where advanced technical geoscience skills are required to maximize business value. This involves reservoir characterization, planning and executing wells, and applying an understanding of steam chamber growth and conformance to optimize ultimate recovery and effectively manage SORs.

What you'll do:

  • Support Cenovus' short- and long-term development plans that include:
    • Exploration and delineation drilling program
    • SAGD Pad planning
    • Well execution
    • Well surveillance
    • Production optimization
    • Providing geological properties for production related forecasting
    • Contributing to regulatory applications, scheme amendments and directives
  • Utilize various suites of geological data including routine wireline logs, image logs, core descriptions and analysis, and petrophysical information to characterize resource and reserves evaluations
  • Work closely with geomodellers and geophysicists to build and refine of geomodels and geological maps
  • Ensure consistency in development practices while fostering effective communication across disciplines
  • Support workflow optimization projects with the intent of improving geoscience and reservoir engineering workflows and outputs
  • Prepare documentation and presentations for technical reviews, lookbacks and knowledge shares
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Share learnings with peers
  • Initiate trials and studies to improve upon current best practices

Who you are:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Professional Geologist, accredited with APEGA and/or APEGS
  • 12-18 years of experience is required
  • Preference for SAGD thermal or other enhanced oil recovery experience in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan
  • Experience in horizontal well planning and execution will be considered an asset
  • Advanced level skills in Geoscience Technical Competencies with depth of knowledge of multiple geoscience disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and ability to influence others without authority
  • Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to a diverse audience
