About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Montney Staff Geologist to join our Conventional Development team located in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Edson/Berland Sr Geology Manager, the Montney Staff Geologist will lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for all CDU Montney assets. The ideal candidate will possess an extensive knowledge of progressing Montney development and have a keen understanding of the factors that drive regional Montney success. They will be accountable for evaluating resource extents, assessing competitor activity and establishing inventory for the long range plan.

What you’ll do:

  1. Collaborate with a multi-discipline team of Geologists, Geophysicists, and Engineers to advance the development of CDU's Montney assets.
  2. Ensure the Montney team has thorough comprehension and uses practical application of the pivotal factors driving success in regional Montney development.
  3. Support Montney capital program planning and execution.
  4. Create geological mapping for high grading inventory, establishing drilling locations and refining long range plans.
  5. Evaluate business development opportunities such as acquisitions and divestitures, mineral land tenure expiries and crown land sale acquisitions.
  6. Contribute to Cenovus’s subsurface community by participating in peer reviews, technical assurance and knowledge sharing events.
  7. Generate new ideas and opportunities to develop resource in core operating areas.
  8. Help mentor junior Geologists.

Who you are:

  1. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  2. Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Geology.
  3. A minimum of 12+ years of related industry experience.
  4. Member of APEGA or another Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required.
  5. Experience with a wide range of geoscience software (knowledge of Geographix and Petrel is an asset).
  6. Strong understanding of Montney development and key factors to Montney success.
  7. Drilling and operations experience.
  8. Previous working experience in the Western Canadian Deep Basin is an asset.
  9. Demonstrates the ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
  10. Strong informal leadership abilities.
