Job Description

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Social Worker provides a range of services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. The incumbent provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums.

  • Provides screening, triage, assessment, treatment, and case coordination services to a child and youth mental health and addiction population.
  • Supervises students in formal clinical practicums.
Requirements
  • Recognized Bachelor Degree in Social Work is required.
  • Must have current practicing registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW).
Experience
  • Requires a minimum of one year (postgraduate) recent recognized experience in a community mental health setting working with children, youth, and families presenting with acute and chronic mental health problems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology.
  • Ability to identify, implement, and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentation and formulate evidence-based intervention.
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values, and traditions and their impact on accessing mental health services.
  • Knowledge of a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for children/youth with mental health and addiction problems in a community setting.
  • Ability to work in partnership within the community and possess a broad knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to design, initiate, and conduct in-service training for other professionals.
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children and youth and mental health concerns.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
  • Ability to manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation that impacts the work of clinicians in a mental health setting.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems.
Other Information
  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet client need and operational needs.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for use as needed.
