Field Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Safety Specialist to join our Health and Safety team at Nova Scotia Power. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with management, IBEW, and employees to implement safety plans and support our corporate commitment to safety excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement safety plans to ensure a safe working environment for employees and the public.
- Work with field and corporate office personnel to improve safety performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Support the roll-out of strategic safety initiatives, including Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention and psychological health and safety.
- Collaborate with management and the IBEW to develop Safe Work Practices and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and perform field safety observations to provide feedback to the field.
- Measure the compliance of assigned operating areas with the Safety Program through auditing and provide coaching and advice on safety-related issues.
- Ensure the Safety Program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and assist managers, supervisors, and frontline employees in understanding and applying safety regulations, policies, and rules.
- Provide technical advice on safety-related matters and track safety performance to identify trends and communicate them with supervisors.
- Facilitate meetings on safety initiatives and provide safety-related education to meet customer needs.
- Attend management team meetings to ensure a consistent message is delivered and assist JOHSC Investigation teams in determining immediate and root factors associated with incidents.
- Work with other utilities and industries to improve safety in the workplace and travel throughout the Valley, South Shore, and Metro Territory with a focus on Energy Delivery, Hydro, and Wind.
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Demonstrated passion for safety and experience working with world-class safety programs.
- Self-motivation with experience working independently and several years of experience working in an industrial environment, preferably with the transmission and distribution of an electrical utility.
- CRSP/CRST designation or working towards it is an asset.
- Exemplary relationship-building, communication, and motivational skills to build and maintain working relationships with teams within Nova Scotia Power and its operating areas.
- Ability to make effective decisions and work effectively as part of an integrated team.
- Current, valid driver's license and willingness to travel within and outside the province as required.
