Reporting to the Vice-President, People and Culture, the Assistant Vice-President (AVP) - Recruitment and Talent Management will lead the recruitment and talent management of academic and administrative positions at the university, attracting, supporting, and developing the best faculty and staff. The AVP Recruitment and Talent Management is a key senior leader who will set and steer the strategy for full life cycle recruitment across all employee groups. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead strategies related to onboarding, career development and learning, succession planning, internal promotion, and coaching. Work collaboratively with leaders across the university to address critical hiring needs and ensure the retention and development of high-quality talent.
  • Lead various employee engagement initiatives, including oversight and continuous evolution of the university's employee value proposition to ensure the university's continued status as an employer of choice and a destination for world-class talent.
  • Direct and consult on the full suite of recruitment and talent management issues with leaders at all levels across the university. Lead the development and implementation of ongoing formal orientation and education on recruitment and talent management matters.
  • Uphold and champion the university's priority to foster a collegial culture grounded in respect and inclusion by delivering recruitment and talent management services that support employment equity goals, diversity and inclusiveness and efforts relating to the Indigenous Strategy.
  • Oversee and lead a team of professionals within the recruitment and talent management portfolio and act as regular support and collaborator with the Vice-President, People and Culture, providing strategic support and counsel to both the Vice-President and other senior leaders across the institution.

  • Master's degree in a related field such Organizational Development, Business, Industrial Relations or acceptable equivalent plus ten or more years' related, progressive experience with recruitment and/or talent management relations as well as experience building, developing and leading functionally diverse teams (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong knowledge and experience with applying leading edge recruitment and selection methodologies and practices.
  • Demonstrated and progressive, commitment, both in scope and application to EDIA and strategies related to Indigenization and decolonization, specifically as it relates to recruitment and talent management best practices, advice provision, and policy/guideline development.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, displaying resilient leadership and a growth mindset. Self-motivated and innovative with a strong business development acumen and the ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience serving as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to senior leaders, with sound judgement and high credibility, and a proven track record of strong client and customer service focus, problem-solving ability and proven track record of resolving issues.
  • Excellent communication (oral, written and presentation) skills with individuals at all levels. A demonstrated ability to listen and advocate appropriately combined with exceptional networking and relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to mitigate risk in sensitive environments and facilitate group decision making at an executive level.
Assets
  • Familiarity with talent management needs within a university setting.
  • An established network of industry and candidate contacts.
  • Experience using applicant tracking software and other talent management and recruitment technologies.
  • Related education or certification.
  • Membership in local and/or national HR Associations or other organizations relevant to HR including a CPHR designation.
