Our client, a key player in the transportation and infrastructure sector, has been chosen by major entities to enter the Development Phase of an extensive, multi-billion-dollar capital program. This transformational project is aimed at revolutionizing the regional rail network by introducing electrification, more frequent service, shorter journey times, and a state-of-the-art system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Overview

Our client's Civil team is seeking a driven and accomplished Risk Manager, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The successful candidate will report to the Commercial Director and become an integral part of their ever-evolving team.

Key Responsibilities

The Risk Manager's duties include:

  • Managing program and project risk and opportunities for specific bundles and work packages following Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis.
  • Implementing a risk management framework and process, and organizing risk management resources across the project's stakeholders.
  • Conducting Risk Assessment Workshops with the project teams and program partners.
  • Leading and supporting identification and definition of risk and opportunity, evaluating potential impact, and developing effective risk mitigation measures.
  • Managing the assessment, evaluation, prioritization, and update of risks for all bundles and work packages.
  • Monitoring and measuring the associated mitigation actions to prevent risk occurrence.
  • Directing and participating in regular risk reviews to identify, capture, and agree risks, with the project teams and program partners.
  • Applying Monte Carlo analysis to inform and recommend appropriate mitigation actions and ensure progress to recovery plans.
  • Reviewing the cost of mitigation action, budget and actual, and evaluating risks to ensure contingency reserves are accurate for rigorous cost control.
  • Preparing weekly, monthly, and annual reports for risk data analysis.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A post-graduate diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Risk Manager or in a similar role.
  • Extensive experience or understanding of Project Controls (estimate/cost and schedule).
  • Proven knowledge of risk methodology and tools, and key functional disciplines including Commercial, Finance, Operations, and Procurement.
  • Exceptional network-building skills, with the ability to foster strong relationships across functions and with clients.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
